Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a certified Special Education classroom teacher to translate curriculum standards into meaningful instruction and create a learning environment that meets diverse student needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field.
• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate, appropriate for subject area.
• Course work includes foundations of special education, behavior management, assessment/evaluation, instructional strategies for students with disabilities and inclusive teaching practices

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials.
• Uses a variety of effective instructional and management techniques.
• Plans lessons considering individual learning needs and school goals.
• Utilizes district-adopted textbooks and curriculum guides for planning.
• Incorporates higher level thinking strategies and real-life applications into lesson planning.
• Creates instructional materials and assessments aligned with learning objectives.
• Uses available technology to enhance learning experiences.
• Collects student achievement data to inform instructional decisions.
• Maintains positive classroom and campus management per policies and regulations.
• Develops IEPs and aligns lesson plans to IEP goals and objectives.
• Maintains open communication with students and parents about progress.
• Works with families and school staff to provide an appropriate education for each student.
• Maintains student records related to achievement, attendance, and discipline.
• Provides a safe learning environment and supports school goals.
• Performs other duties as appropriate to the assignment.
