Position: Special Education Teacher – Learning Behavior Specialist (Co‑Taught or Resource Teacher)

Reports To: Principal and Director of Teaching and Learning

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:

OBJECTIVES

The teacher is responsible for implementing the individual education programs and evaluating student progress for students in special education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assesses special needs of individual students and collaborates with staff in meeting those needs.
• Maintains appropriate student records.
• Provides instructions to classroom and 1‑1 paraprofessionals and engenders a team atmosphere.
• Motivates students through positive feedback based upon their i.e.p.s and school‑wide PBIS, if appropriate.
• Participates in district and school committees.
• Maintains a clean, attractive and safe learning environment.
• Maintains positive relationships and works with parents to achieve student objectives.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Supervises pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned work day.
• Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
• Maintains professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and in self‑selected professional growth activities.
• 13. Performs other duties as required.
