Job summary

ReNEW Schools in Decatur, IL is seeking a dedicated paraprofessional to support general education and special education classrooms. You will assist with implementing IEPs, behavior plans, and daily student care while helping students participate in regular classes and activities.

You will copy notes, modify tests/materials, monitor progress, and help with routines from bus assistance to supervision during drills and field trips, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate with staff, students, and visitors.
• Ability to communicate with supervisor(s) in person and in writing to receive assignments/directions.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience working with students with special needs.
• May require sensory interpretation training and student restraint training.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in implementing the individual students’ IEP and possible behavior plans.
• Support students in general education classes by copying notes, modifying tests and materials, reading quizzes and tests, and conducting small group sessions.
• Assist with students requiring daily care (toileting, feeding, etc.).
• Monitor student progress in general education classes.
• Maintain a notebook and/or folders with copies of accommodation pages and behavior plans from IEPs.
• Assist with student discipline and implementation of behavior support plans.
• Assist students on and off the bus.
• Check students’ work and assist with make-up work.
• Operate audio-visual equipment and computers or iPads for instructional purposes.
• Supervise students in classroom, restroom, drills, assemblies, recess, and field trips.
