Job summary

ICEF Public Schools in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a Manager of Special Education to lead the department on-site and ensure high-quality instructional programs for students with disabilities. The role reports to the School Principal and partners with ICEF’s central team to implement compliant, effective supports.

The position requires a valid teaching credential, California experience, 5+ years in special education, and a commitment to equity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree or credential in Special Education strongly preferred.
• Valid teaching credential, ideally within the state of California.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in special education, including instructional and leadership roles.
• Demonstrated success in improving academic outcomes for students with disabilities.
• Strong understanding of IDEA, California special education law, and IEP compliance requirements.
• Exceptional communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and whole-child development.
• TB clearance; Background check clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise special education staff to ensure instructional quality.
• Provide instructional coaching and professional development focused on IEP implementation.
• Support curriculum alignment for Special Day Class (SDC) settings to meet IEP goals.
• Act as liaison between school site and ICEF’s central special education team.
• Manage a small caseload of students with IEPs and family communication.
• Review and provide feedback on draft IEPs for clarity and compliance.
• Monitor compliance reports and progress; address areas of concern.
• Maintain accurate records and data tracking for audits.
• Collaborate with general education teachers and school leaders to promote inclusive practices.
• Lead weekly special education team meetings.
• Guide behavioral planning and crisis intervention with IEPs.
• Support network-wide special education initiatives and other duties as assigned.
