Job summary

Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking a Specialist, Special Education for the Special Education Service Center – Region North. The role supervises and evaluates administrators, coaches leadership in compliance with IDEA, and leads professional development to support students with disabilities.

You will guide instructional planning, monitor compliance indicators, and collaborate to implement district-wide inclusive practices.

Qualifications

Permanent certificated employee of LAUSD.
Two years as AP/APEIS or principal OR equivalent.
Three years of experience with students with disabilities.
Master’s degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution.
Completion of Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework (deadline to complete: 1 year).

Responsibilities

Supervise and evaluate Assistant Principal and Elementary Instructional Specialist staff.
Coach and develop leadership staff on special education mandates and compliance.
Oversee district policy implementation for special education supports and services.
Ensure IDEA and other legal mandates compliance across the region.
Develop professional development for instructional, operational, and compliance support.
Support inclusive practices and school-wide planning for students with disabilities.
Prepare and monitor effective IEPs with timelines and service tracking.
Perform duties as assigned and cover for shortages when needed.
