Job summary

Liberty Union-Thurston Local Schools seeks a Special Education Leadership Specialist to provide direction and organizational structure for student services in line with federal and state laws. You will oversee elementary school services, preschool, and related areas as assigned.

You will collaborate with the Director of Student Services and elementary principal, supervise staff, ensure compliance, and lead reporting to the Ohio Department of Education.

Qualifications

• Hold an Ohio Special Education Teacher's Certificate in at least one area of students with disabilities.
• Hold an educational administrative specialist, principal, or supervisor certificate.
• Have three years of teaching experience in special education.

Responsibilities

• Assists with programs in, but not limited to the following areas: special education programs for students with disabilities, preschool, Section 504
• Collaborates the delivery and continuous improvement of special education programs
• Collaboration of the delivery of student services, which supplement and support the district's other educational programs and activities
• Consults with the elementary principal on aspects of program implementation in the school
• Assists with mandated reports for submission to the Ohio Department of Education
• Assists building administration by interpreting district policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities
• Provides leadership and direction to administrators, psychologists, general education and special education staff for the implementation of Federal law and Ohio rules for educating students with disabilities
• Provides clear guidance to administrators and staff on Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered Systems of Response
• Actively provides leadership and direction to administrators, school counselors, and staff regarding requirements under Section 504
• Participates in the placement of students with disabilities in alternative placements, including schools outside the district, scholarship, court placed, fostered out
• Assists in developing district-wide policies concerning special education programs and student services
• Develops procedures to maintain complete individual records of all children enrolled in special education
• Recommends the approval of supplies, instructional materials, and curriculum used by special education, preschool, and ELL staff.
• Advises all personnel on rules and regulations regarding all programs that relate to special education, Section 504, preschool and student services
• Collaborating in the processes and procedures to ensure the accurate reporting of special education as it impacts the EMIS data management
• Maintain an appropriate and professional rapport with coworkers & students
• Communicate effectively with supervisor
• Ensure safety of students
• Promote positive public relations
• Serve as a role model for students
• Provide internal and external reports and presentations as requested
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., test scores, student/personnel information
• Successfully completes all district training requirements in a timely manner
• Comply with all Board of Education policies
• Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or her/his designee
