Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Education is required.
• Three (3) years of urban teaching experience in special education at the secondary level.
• Massachusetts Teacher Certification in Special Education and at the secondary level.
• Massachusetts Supervisor/Director OR Administrator of Special Education license.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and interpersonal skills for working with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
• Belief in high standards for all students and inclusion models in Special Education.
• Ability to foster a culturally sensitive atmosphere promoting equity.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head of schools in carrying out local, state, and federal regulatory responsibilities and ensure compliance with regulations and court orders, including development of Individual Education Plans.
• Supervise, train, and direct the work of all Special Education professionals and support staff.
• Evaluate the performances of all professional staff assigned to the department.
• Oversee curriculum goals, promote differentiated instruction, and train instructional materials distribution with Curriculum leadership.
• Ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities in instruction and assessments.
• Maintain timely and accurate student records and reports.
• Maintain communication among students, parents, and staff in Special Education programs.
• Assist in developing and implementing school improvement plans.
• Collaborate with other departments to include all Special Education students in classes and activities.
• Plan literacy and behavior intervention programs aligning with standards and teaching practices.
• Develop and implement inclusive programs and monitor service quality for students with disabilities.
• Assist in building ETF with Individualized Education Plans as needed.
• Participate in whole-school functions and other administrative duties.
