Job summary

Sylvania in Stevensville, MI is seeking a Paraprofessional – Special Education for Stewart Elementary School, Lakeshore Public Schools. The role is 35 hours per week and focuses on supporting students with learning needs under certified staff.

You will work with individual students or small groups, help organize tasks, restate directions, monitor safety, provide feedback, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate with staff, parents, and the community to support students with special needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Advanced training in child care field or two years of aide experience preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assist students in organizing tasks, assignments, agenda, and homework.
• Restating directions to check for understanding in the classroom.
• Ensure students safely navigate around the building.
• Provide positive feedback and encouragement.
• Alert certified staff to any problem or special information about a student.
• Maintain strict confidentiality with student information.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with staff, students, parents and community.
• Demonstrate understanding, patience and care toward students with special needs.
• Use technology when working with students.
• Follow established policies/procedures (medical concerns, safety, student rights, emergency plans).
• Support students with behavior plans.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Advanced training in a field related to child care and/or a minimum of two years of experience as an aide or equivalent experience preferred.
• Competent in the following areas: communication skills, organization, and in establishing excellent interpersonal relationships with staff and students.

Duties:
