Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking a 2026-2027 Paraprofessional for Special Education to support instructional staff and students. The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth, following IEP directives and school routines.

Responsibilities include group instruction, materials preparation, parent involvement, and occasional personal care for students. A strong preference is shown for ASL skills and prior paraeducator experience.

Qualifications

• Must meet one of the listed minimum qualifications to work as a paraprofessional.
• Alternate credentials may satisfy the requirement, per district policy.
• Experience in supporting instruction with students with special needs is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordinating and carrying out instructional activities with classroom teachers.
• Provide group instruction to assigned children and support curriculum implementation.
• Assist in preparing daily materials and setting up activities.
• Collaborate with parents, volunteers and staff to support student growth.
• Participate in program planning and parent involvement activities.
• Attend orientation and professional development sessions; assist as group leader when needed.
• Implement individual and group activities to support growth outlined in IEPs.
• Instruct children in daily living skills and provide supervision outside the classroom as assigned.
• Provide short-term classroom coverage when the teacher is away from the room.
• Provide personal care for students as appropriate (diapering, toileting, feeding).
• Lift and transfer students as needed; use technology to enhance achievement.
