Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Highly Qualified status (A.A. Degree, 48 credit hours, or passed Paraprofessional Praxis).
• Two years' experience with children with emotional disturbance or related experience.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly with aggressive students.
• Ability to lift 30–50 pounds and participate in physical restraint when needed.
• Regular and predictable attendance required.
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills.
• Assist students in generalizing social skills in general education.
• Participate in crisis response with verbal de-escalation and physical restraint when needed.
• Assist with devising special strategies for reinforcing skills and instruction.
• Help maintain classroom organization and a positive learning environment.
• Operate and assist with care of classroom equipment.
• Assist with supervision and management during instructional and non-instructional activities.
• Assist with physical care and management of students as needed.
• Follow through to carry out individual programs designed by the teacher.
• Participate in team planning and provide input as appropriate.
• Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned.
