Job summary

SmartStart Education, LLC is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to work with small groups of high school students in Hartford, CT. You will support academic and social-emotional development and collaborate with teachers, therapists, and counselors to implement individualized instructional plans.

The position runs Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM to 2:45 PM, with a start date of 10/1/2026 and end date of 6/9/2027.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution; anticipated graduation dates not acceptable.
• At least 6 months of teaching, tutoring, coaching, or advising youth experience in school or learning settings.
• Understanding of challenges faced by urban students, including racial and socio-economic disparities.
• Punctual, reliable, and committed to following schedules.
• Effective communication with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
• Ability to commute to Hartford, CT and navigate a school environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Special Education teachers to support each student’s needs.
• Provide direct support to students in classrooms, resource rooms, and other settings.
• Assist in developing instructional materials and activities to boost academic and social-emotional growth.
• Monitor progress and behavior; document observations and report findings to the supervising teacher.
• Foster an inclusive, positive classroom environment that supports student development.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and follow privacy laws and policies.
• Assist with organization and management of classroom materials and resources.
• Collaborate with therapists, counselors, and administrators to support student growth.
• Attend trainings, workshops, and meetings to enhance professional skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
