Job summary

Lyon County School District in Nevada is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to assist licensed teachers in delivering specially designed instruction to students with disabilities under IEP guidance.

The role includes supporting daily living, academic, vocational, and behavioral management, data collection, and use of classroom technology, with duties expanding to autism and behavior management training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license and DMV clearance.
• Specialized training as needed to meet student needs as outlined in IEPs.
• Current Crisis Prevention and Restraint Training, First Aid, and CPR Training.

Responsibilities

• Assists the student(s) in the program to whom they are assigned in physical tasks such as putting on/taking off outerwear, moving between locations, toileting and personal hygiene care, carrying lunch trays, eating, transportation, etc.
• Assists students in curriculum tasks as assigned by a certified teacher, carrying out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments.
• Under direct supervision of a certified teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material.
• Accompanies students to other locations within the school as needed.
• Establishes a supportive relationship with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Serves as a resource to the student’s eligibility and IEP teams when conferring about the student.
• Assists individual students in performing activities initiated by the special education or classroom teacher.
• Participates in data collection procedures, observing, recording and charting behavior.
• Monitors and reports student progress to certified personnel.
• Assists students with classroom technology and augmentative devices.
