Job summary

Hood River County School District is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with academic and social needs in a 6-hour/day role. You will implement district-approved curriculum, document progress, and help create a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include communicating with parents, recording progress, assisting teachers, coordinating with staff and community partners, and supervising students in class, lunch, and transitions.

Qualifications

• Associates’ Degree or 72 college credits transferable to a four-year degree.
• CBEST or PRAXIS Paraprofessional exam may substitute degree requirements.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
• Experience with students with special needs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise parents/guardians of student progress for home support and school goals.
• Assess and record student achievement to inform progress and planning.
• Assist teachers in implementing curriculum.
• Collaborate with staff and community agencies to improve student outcomes.
• Instruct students to improve academics and daily living skills.
• Direct instructional assistants and volunteers to support the program.
• Monitor student activities to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Prepare teaching materials and progress reports for lesson plans and documentation.
• Report incidents to maintain safety and adherence to policies.
