Job summary

Fort Zumwalt School District seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional at Hawthorn Elementary in St. Peters, MO. The position supports students with disabilities under the direction of teachers and administrators and offers a family-friendly, on-site work environment.

The role involves classroom assistance, behavior support, and basic student care, with pay details outlined as $15.50 per hour. Employment is 9 months, full-time, with a predefined work calendar.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Preference given to candidates with a minimum of sixty college hours and the ability to obtain substitute teacher certification.
• Experience working with students with disabilities, behavioral needs, or in educational settings is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher with instruction of students in the classroom.
• Meet the needs of all students with disabilities under direction of administration and teams.
• Monitor and assist students to complete tasks and provide accommodations per IEP.
• Assist with the physical care of students as needed (diaper changing, bathroom, feeding).
• Assist in teaching and modeling positive behaviors.
• Assist students in daily living skills such as feeding, toileting, and mobility.
• Provide support in monitoring, intervening, and redirecting student behaviors.
• Supervise classroom when teacher is unavailable due to other duties (sub-certification or teaching cert required).
• Assist students with assistive technology usage.
• Assist in data collection related to IEP goals.
• Lead individual and small group activities under teacher direction.
• Facilitate communication between general and special education teachers.
• Escort students to classes, activities, and buses as needed.
• Maintain documentation and records for student files.
