Job summary

The Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC) with placement at the ELC – Windom is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for the 2026-27 school year. You will assist students, teachers and a mental health professional to maintain a safe learning environment in a special education setting.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, PCA certification (within two weeks of hire), PCM certification through SWWC, an 80%+ pass on Level 1, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proof of Personal Care Assistant (PCA) certification; new paraprofessional must be certified within two weeks of hire date.
  • Successfully obtain PCM certification through training provided by SWWC.
  • Passing score (80% or better) on SWWC Level 1 skills assessment; must be obtained by the end of the introductory period.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Criminal background check will be conducted on successful applicant.

Responsibilities

  • The Special Education Paraprofessional provides assistance to children, teachers and mental health professionals within an appropriate, safe learning environment.
  • Support students enrolled in special education programs, including those with challenging behaviors.
  • Assist with classroom activities and supervision as needed.

POSITION LOCATION:

Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC) with placement at the ELC – Windom.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Special Education Paraprofessional provides assistance to children, teachers &/or mental health professional/practitioner in providing an appropriate, safe learning environment to students enrolled in special educational programs. Some students may have challenging behaviors.



QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Proof of Personal Care Assistant (PCA) certification; new paraprofessional must be certified within two weeks of hire date;

  • Successfully obtain PCM certification through training provided by SWWC;

  • Passing score (80% or better) on SWWC Level 1 skills assessment; passing score must be obtained by the end of the introductory period to continue employment;

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Criminal background check will be conducted on successful applicant.



SALARY

Position is for 2026-27 school year. Paraprofessionals work 6.5 hours per day with a 30-minute duty free lunch break, Monday – Friday. Salary range of $20.00/hour to $26.00/hour depending on education, qualifications, abilities, and experience.
