Job summary

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional – Resource Program at Isbister Elementary School. This full-time position is 37.5 hours weekly, Monday through Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm.

The paraprofessional will support students with IEPs in various settings and collaborate with teachers to implement accommodations and supports. Responsibilities include health care and behavior support, data collection, and supervision in common areas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work with parents, students, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-direction.
  • Experience with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with IEPs in 1:1, small group, or whole class settings.

  • Maintain behavioral and instructional logs and data collection.
  • Supervise students in lunchroom, halls, and outdoors as assigned.
  • Complete Medicaid billing as applicable.
  • Utilize assistive devices to support students with disabilities.

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENT

Special Education Paraprofessional – Resource Program (2 positions open)

LOCATION

Isbister Elementary School

HOURS

37.5 hours weekly

Monday – Friday

8:30am – 4:30pm

*Report to primary assignment daily, but may be assigned to other duties or positions within special education based on day to day building and program needs.

JOB GOAL

Paraprofessional will provide overall support for students with IEP's. Areas of support may include instructional, self-care, physical, behavioral, and/or toileting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with parents, students and support personnel.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed.
  • Ability to engage in problem identification and problem solving on behalf of the student(s).
  • Ability to establish a positive rapport with staff/parents/students.
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works in collaboration with general and special education staff to support students with IEPs in the least restrictive environment.
  • Functions under the guidance of special education teacher, and supports students' accommodations and modifications per their IEPs in a 1:1, small group, or whole class setting.
  • Supports students with specific plans developed by the special education professional team.
  • Assists the special education classroom teacher and support personnel in the implementation of health care, behavior, and instructional programming.
  • Manages both behavioral and instructional logs.Maintains and implements data collection systems.
  • Completes Medicaid billing as applicable.
  • Utilizes technology and/or assisting devices to support students with disabilities.
  • Supervise students in the lunchroom, halls, and outside as assigned by supervisor.
  • Supervisory aide hours/responsibility is part of this position.
  • Ability to do physical activity such as bending, lifting, and moving quickly preferred.
  • Provides clinic/first aid/medication support to students.
  • Assists and performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the bargaining agreement guidelines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
