  • Help plan scheduling and prepare materials to support student learning.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers about student needs and progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students and families.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Title: Special Education Paraprofessional

Department: Special Education

Reports To: Building Principal/Special Education Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Purpose

The special education paraprofessional will work closely with one or a few special needs students on a regular basis in order to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain the full benefits from their educational placement under the direction of the supervising teacher(s).

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree, 60 hours of college credits or proof of passage of Basic Skills Teacher Certification or WorkKeys Test preferred.
  • Successful experience working with children preferred.
Essential Duties And Responsibilties
  • To assist students(s) to whom assigned in any physical tasks directed by supervisor.
  • Special education paraprofessionals give reinforcement to students in the areas of social studies, math, science, and reading or other areas as directed by supervisor.
  • Support the teacher on methods, materials and strategies for reinforcements on target children. The teacher will plan all lessons and be responsible for instruction.
  • Aid teacher, when requested, in communication between home and school.
  • Participate in on-going staff development.
  • Help plan scheduling for meeting the needs of students. Help collect and/or prepare materials to support student learning.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers as to student’s needs and progress.
  • Treat all information about the school, teachers, children and their families as strictly confidential.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Language Skills

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
