Job summary

Haslett Public Schools is seeking a Special Education paraprofessional to provide a range of support duties under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher and in alignment with each student's IEP, helping to deliver a strong, inclusive academic program for children with disabilities.

SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher and the guidelines stated in the student's IEP, provide a variety of support duties related to delivering a sound academic program and maintaining a healthy, safe, and supportive school environment for children with special needs. Special education paraprofessionals may be assigned one-on-one assignments or small group assignments depending on the nature of the students disability and the educational setting.

• Willingness to be trained in First Aid/CPR and implement nonviolent verbal and physical interventions.
• Help students with getting on and off the school bus.
• Potential playground/lunchroom supervision

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

• Ability to relate and communicate with children, teachers, parents, and other professionals.
• May be required to facilitate medical and/or personal care needs of students.
• People skills sufficient for prolonged and effective contact with students with disabilities.
• Experience with Special Education Students.
