Job summary

KEGOTANK Elementary in MAPPSVILLE, Virginia is seeking an Instructional Assistant - Special Education to support teachers in serving students with special needs and help them meet academic and social goals.

The role involves assisting with lesson delivery, behavior interventions, life-skills support, and materials prep, with a 181-day contract and immediate start; a ParaPro Certification and 1 year of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• ParaPro Certification is required.
• At least one year of successful work experience.
• Previous experience working with special education students is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supports the teacher in special education classes with all aspects of the day, including instruction, reviews, and behavior interventions.
• Ensures compliance with assignments and extracurricular duties outlined by the teacher and/or principal.
• Assists the teacher in implementing daily and long-range lesson plans; provides instructional support and remediation during academic lessons and various activities.
• Provides functional support with daily life skills.
• Assists the teacher in the preparation of classroom and instructional materials.
• Monitors students in the classroom and provides coverage when the teacher is away.
• Assumes a fair share of the classroom duties as outlined by the classroom teacher.
• Monitors classroom behaviors, follows behavior plans, and assists students with adaptive behavior skills.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
