Job summary

Iowa City Community School District is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support students at West High School in Iowa City, IA. Position is 7 hours per day, 175 days per year, with a starting date TBD and salary of $17.05 per hour.

The role involves implementing IEPs, supporting behavior plans, assisting with materials and bus transitions, and collaborating with the special education team. Education certs preferred but not required; HS diploma or GED required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Para Certificate or Post-Secondary Education preferred.
• Experience in a K-12 education system is preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing the student's Individual Education Plans and support in preparing and organizing instructional materials and equipment, including Behavior Implementation Plan (BIP).
• Assist with and/or perform personal care and hygiene activities as necessitated by the needs of the student.
• Implement strategies and participate in training to prevent, minimize, and manage behavioral challenges with dignity and safety; may include crisis management as needed.
• Support the implementation of alternate communication devices and ensure access across settings.
• Participate in verbal de-escalation and crisis management training provided by the Iowa City Community School District.
• Maintain requested student documentation, Medicaid logs, and progress monitoring.
• Assist with transitions of students on and off the bus, and may ride the bus to support students; complete bus rider training upon hire.
• Create and maintain positive working relationships with the school community, students, and staff.
• Attend work promptly and regularly; maintain confidentiality; perform other duties as assigned.
