Job summary

Iowa City Community School District Liberty High School in North Liberty, Iowa is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator for a 7-hour day to support students with IEPs. The role reports to the Building Principal and engages in behavior support, instructional assistance, and collaboration with the special education team.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, with a para certificate or related education preferred, and prior K-12 experience is valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Para Certificate or post-secondary education preferred.
• Experience in a K-12 education system preferred.
• District may accept alternatives to the above qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing the student's IEPs and help prepare instructional materials and equipment.
• Implement a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and support safety and dignity.
• Assist with personal care and hygiene activities as needed.
• Participate in training to prevent and manage behavioral challenges and crisis response.
• Support alternate communication devices and ensure access across settings.
• Take part in verbal de-escalation and crisis management training.
• Maintain student documentation, Medicaid logs, and progress monitoring.
• Assist with bus transitions and riding as needed; complete bus rider training.
• Create and maintain positive relationships with the school community, students and staff.
• Attend work promptly and maintain confidentiality.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or GED
