Job summary

North Thurston Public Schools is seeking a Paraeducator (Special Education) to support instructional and learner needs in various settings, including one-on-one and small groups. The role involves assisting with assessments, implementing individualized plans, and promoting student engagement in diverse classrooms under certificated supervision.

Responsibilities cover health-related tasks, behavior support, and collaboration with teachers and families.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s Degree or 72 quarter credits OR the ETS ParaPro test.
• May be required to be certified in first aid, CPR, and/or defibrillators.
• Experience working with culturally diverse families/communities or commitment to engagement.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with assessment, curriculum implementation, and student supervision.
• Provide 1:1 or small group support for students with special needs.
• Support daily living tasks and health-related duties as directed by the school nurse.
• Implement behavior plans and safety procedures; monitor student behavior and progress.
• Supervise students during recess, bus duty, and transitions; maintain safety protocols.
• Document student progress and maintain weekly reports; assist with clerical tasks.
