Job summary

ASU Preparatory Academy in Phoenix seeks a Special Education Paraeducator to support students with special needs in classroom settings. You will liaise between teachers and students, supervise progress and behavior, and communicate with support staff.

Requires open communication, CPR certification and DPS fingerprint clearance, with relevant educational credentials. The role includes directing small groups, assisting instruction, and preparing materials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and an associate degree or higher, or 60 college credits, or passing ADE assessments.
• DPS fingerprint clearance card and CPR certification are required.
• Regular attendance and prior supervisory experience with groups of children is highly preferred.

Salary Range: $16.00 - $22.00 USD hourly.

The role of the Special Education Paraeducator is to provide instruction and oversight for students as they complete academic work in the classroom setting. The Special Education Paraeducator serves as the liaison between the highly qualified teacher and the students, supervising student progress and behavior. This position requires open and ongoing communication with the partnership support staff and to engage and help students with special needs.

Qualifications

Must meet Highly Qualified requirements by: High School Diploma/GED AND an Associate’s Degree or higher OR Successful completion of 60 semester hours of college credit OR Obtain a passing score on one of the ADE approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment (Praxis), ACT Workkeys, or Master Teacher’s ParaEducator PD Now! Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. CPR Certification. Regular and predictable attendance is essential. Previous experience successfully supervising and assisting groups of children, highly preferred. Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

• Gathering resources and supplementary materials.
• Prepares instructional materials.
• Takes and maintains CPR training.
• Assists with activities of daily living.
• Implements modified curriculum.
• Provides behavior support.
• Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

• Demonstrated excellent reading, writing, computation and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform routine clerical tasks in support of classroom activities.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
