Job summary

ASU Preparatory Academy is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator to assist students with special needs in the classroom under the supervision of a licensed teacher.

The role emphasizes supervising small groups, reinforcing skills, and supporting daily classroom activities. A high school diploma with college credits or an approved exam is required, along with CPR certification and DPS clearance.

Qualifications

• Must meet Highly Qualified requirements via diploma and college credits or approved exam.
• Active DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• CPR Certification.
• Regular attendance is essential.
• Any equivalent combination of education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Works with small groups under teacher supervision.
• Directs small groups and assists children with instructions.
• Helps children understand and follow directions.
• Encourages independent work and reinforces classroom skills.
• Assists with routine tasks and prepares instructional materials.
• Supervises children during lunch and on the playground.
• Maintains attendance records and prepares materials for instruction.
• Takes CPR training and supports activities of daily living as needed.
• Implements modified curriculum and provides behavior support.
• Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $16.00 - $22.00 USD hourly.

The role of the Special Education Paraeducator is to provide instruction and oversight for students as they complete academic work in the classroom setting. The Special Education Paraeducator serves as the liaison between the highly qualified teacher and the students, supervising student progress and behavior. This position requires open and ongoing communication with the partnership support staff and to engage and help students with special needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must meet Highly Qualified requirements by: High School Diploma/GED AND an Associate’s Degree or higher OR Successful completion of 60 semester hours of college credit OR Obtain a passing score on one of the ADE approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment (Praxis), ACT Workkeys, or Master Teacher’s ParaEducator PD Now!
• Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• CPR Certification.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Previous experience successfully supervising and assisting groups of children, highly preferred.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with small groups.
• Directs small groups of children under the supervision of the teacher.
• Assists children in understanding and following directions.
• Encourages children to work independently.
• Reinforces skills taught by the classroom teacher to small and large groups.
• Helps children individually.
• Supervises children during lunch, on the playground, etc.
• Assists classroom teacher with general cleanup and preparation.
• Assists teachers with routine tasks such as: Recording attendance and other information Preparing the classroom for instruction Gathering resources and supplementary materials Prepares instructional materials.
• Takes and maintains CPR training.
• Assists with activities of daily living.
• Implements modified curriculum.
• Provides behavior support.
• Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

• Demonstrated excellent reading, writing, computation and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform routine clerical tasks in support of classroom activities.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
