Job summary

GECS is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities under the direction of certified staff. The role involves assisting in classrooms, implementing IEP-mandated supports, and promoting student independence.

Assignments may vary throughout the day based on student needs and program directions from the special education team and school administration. A high school diploma and applicable clearances are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of college or associate degree preferred.
• Experience with children or adolescents; experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to follow IEPs, staff directions, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist students individually, in small groups, or in general/special education classrooms as directed.
• Implement instructional strategies, accommodations, and supports per IEPs.
• Reinforce skills in reading, writing, math, and daily living without replacing instruction.
• Prepare instructional materials and support participation in activities and assessments.
• Observe and record data and share with supervising staff.
• Promote student independence by minimizing assistance when appropriate.
• Support transitions and personal care as required by IEPs.
• Maintain supervision and follow safety and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families while maintaining confidentiality.
