POSITION OPEN: Special Education Paraeducator(s)

LOCATION: Berkley High School

HOURS: 30 hours per week; 10 month position

COMPENSATION: Per the Berkley Education Association of Paraeducators (BEAP)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma required; 2 years college preferred.
  • An experienced Paraeducator with background assisting a student with disabilities.
  • General knowledge of high school curriculum in reading, writing, math, and science.
  • Must be a positive, caring, and flexible individual, able to adjust to the physical and emotional needs of the student.
  • Cooperative, dependable, show initiative and accept direction.
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted instruction and typing is desirable.
  • C.P.I. training with current record on file or willing to be trained.
  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and kneel as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional:

  • Assist student in the general education classroom with note taking, testing, etc.
  • Encourage independent toileting.
  • Assist with student's participation in small groups as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Check and correct papers and prepare materials under the teacher's direction.
  • Assist with audio-visual and computer setups and operation.
  • Monitor the instructional activities of the student and assist as directed.
  • Assist caseload teacher with daily home-school assignment book/log.

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist student at lunch time as needed.
  • Maintain flexible hours of employment based on student needs.
  • Assist the teacher in maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain files and records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, special education coordinator, and building administrator.
