Job summary

Ellington Public Schools seeks a long-term substitute Special Education teacher for the middle school MAP program. The role supports students in grades 7-8 with specialized instruction and daily living skills in a small group setting.

The teacher will create and implement IEPs, lead Planning and Placement Team meetings, and plan instruction in English, Math, executive functioning and daily living skills. Collaboration with parents and staff is essential.

Qualifications

• Valid Special Education Certification required (#065, #165, or #265).
• State and national criminal background checks required, as well as a DCF search.

Responsibilities

• Write and implement Individualized Education Plans based on data.
• Facilitate Planning and Placement Team meetings.
• Plan and implement instruction in English, Mathematics, executive functioning and daily living skills.
• Partner with parents to foster home/school connections and build relationships with students.
• Build strong connections with students and staff.
• Coordinate home visits with staff for students as needed.
• Oversee and schedule paraeducator support for students.
• Collaborate with school personnel to support program goals.

Ellington Public Schools is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for the middle school MAP Program starting immediately. The program serves students in grades 7-8 who require specialized instruction and Daily living skills support. The program allows for students to access their education in a small group environment. Through a collaborative approach between special education teachers, general education teachers, paraeducators, support staff, administration, parents and students, students are provided an individualized education program that ensures the improvement of skills in the social/emotional/behavioral domain.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:

• Writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans that are based in data
• Facilitating Planning and Placement Team meetings
• Planning and implementing instruction in the areas of English, Mathematics and executive functioning and daily living skills
• Partnering with parents to foster strong home/school connections and building meaningful connections with students.
• Building strong connections with students
• Partnering with staff to conduct home visits for students
• Working collaboratively with school staff
• Overseeing and scheduling paraeducator support for students
