Job summary

San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District is seeking an Instructional Associate – SPED to support the special education teacher with physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. You’ll assist in classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction on assigned campus.

Starting date is immediate. You will report to the principal and assigned teachers; requires two years of college or an associate degree and a valid Texas Educational Aide

Qualifications

• Complete at least two years of college coursework (48 semester hours) or equivalent.
• Possess an associate (or higher) degree.
• Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate.
• Knowledge of and ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Knowledge of reading and mathematics readiness as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and enforce school rules, regulations, and policies.
• Assist students with physical disabilities including mobility needs.
• Support in feeding, hygiene, and personal care as appropriate.
• Help manage student behavior and crisis interventions.
• Develop motor skills with individual students or small groups.
• Supervise students throughout the school day and during meals/bus/playground.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain an orderly classroom and assist with inventory and records.
• Provide orientation to substitute teachers and protect confidential information.
• Participate in staff development and school events.
