Job summary

Lancaster County School District in Kilmarnock, VA seeks an Instructional Assistant for the Northern Neck Regional Special Education Program. Under supervision, you will support certified staff with instruction for students with disabilities and help maintain a positive learning environment.

This role includes small group instruction, behavior support, data collection, field trips, and collaboration with teachers, parents, and specialists to meet individual education goals.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 60 college credits from an accredited college.
• Ability to pass ParaPro Assessment and Autism Spectrum Disorder training.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with planning instruction sessions and evaluating effectiveness.
• Supervise class when teacher is out of the classroom.
• Supervise students one-on-one or in small groups and provide supplemental instruction.
• Monitor student behavior and reinforce positive conduct.
• Assist in recording developmental progress and health concerns.
• Assist in data collection to inform instructional decisions.
• Maintain a daily schedule and routine.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and a safe learning environment.
• Protect students, equipment, and facilities as needed.
• Participate in trainings and staff meetings.
• Attend and chaperone field trips as assigned.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other professionals.
