Job summary

Charles County Public Schools seeks an Instructional Assistant in Special Education to provide instructional and behavioral support in a classroom setting. You will assist with planning and delivering activities aligned with IEP goals and support students with delays or disabilities.

The role includes assisting with arrival/dismissal, materials prep, and occasional personal care assistance, with duties that support a safe, organized learning environment. Training opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years experience with special needs children preferred.
• ParaPro certification preferred; CPR/First Aid preferred.
• Must be at least 18 and hold MD driver's license.
• Willingness to complete additional training.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and delivering instructional activities aligned with IEP goals.
• Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce instruction.
• Prepare and organize materials for lessons.
• Assist students during arrival, dismissal, and bus routines.
• Provide personal care assistance when necessary.
• Support students with behavioral and emotional needs using de-escalation techniques.
• Perform routine classroom tasks: attendance, lunch/recess, errands, copies.
• Provide individualized support for students with IEPs and 504 plans.
• Provide substitute coverage as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
