Job summary

Lexington County School District One is seeking an Instructional Assistant, Special Education to work under a certified teacher with students identified as disabled under IDEA. Provides physical, emotional and academic support to help students gain maximum benefit from programs.

The role requires collaboration with teachers and staff, supports classroom activities, and may involve health-related tasks and daily living assistance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 60 college credit hours completed at an accredited institution; or an associate degree or higher.
• A passing score on the ParaPro or ParaPathways Assessment (available at ETS.org).

Responsibilities

• Supports and upholds the mission, vision and goals of the district to improve student outcomes.
• Interacts, communicates and collaborates effectively with stakeholders.
• Establishes a safe, supportive and productive learning environment.
• Assists teacher with primary academic instruction and classroom activities; prepares and disseminates materials.
• Assists with health-related activities including physical therapy and basic health supports.
• Assists with daily living routines and personal care as needed.
• Reinforces speech therapy lessons and adapts materials for students.
• Maintains confidentiality of student and staff information.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education
