Job summary

Wirt County Schools seeks a Special Education Coordinator/Gifted Teacher to lead district-wide special education and gifted programs. The role includes case management, IEP oversight, and collaboration with schools to implement specialized instruction and transition planning for students with disabilities.

The position requires WV certification in special education with autism/gifted endorsements, a master's in special education, and a strong background in evaluation and MTSS/Policy 2419

Qualifications

• WV Professional Teaching Certificate with endorsements in special education to include autism and gifted.
• Masters Degree in Special Education.
• Minimum of ten (10) years successful teaching experience to include special education.
• Education administrative experience preferred.
• Experience in development of IEPs on the WVEIS system.

Responsibilities

• Provide gifted instruction to identified students per their IEP.
• Case manage students identified as gifted or exceptionally gifted.
• Assist with evaluation process for students referred for special education services.
• Assist schools with implementing specially designed instruction in integrated classrooms.
• Assist schools with secondary transition planning and services for students with disabilities.
• Assist schools with strategies to increase graduation rates for students with disabilities.
• Monitor discipline for students with disabilities and oversee related processes.
• Participate in PBIS teams to ensure schoolwide supports.
• Review IEP documentation and provide corrective feedback.
• Assist in monitoring compliance for the district's special education program.
• Assist in scheduling special education related meetings and participate when necessary.
• Support new special education staff with training.
• Assist with alternate summative assessment preparation.
• Support district and school improvement efforts in special education.
• Assist schools with MTSS ensuring compliance with Policy 2419.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
