Qualifications

The special education designee is directly supervised and evaluated by the Director of Special Services.

Qualifications of Employment:

  • Have the qualifications of a teacher as prescribed by the state Department of Education under the school laws of the state of Arkansas.
  • Hold a degree and certifications in special education.
  • Have at least three years of successful teaching experience in special education.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of due process procedures and compliant documentation under IDEA.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of compliance procedures and district protocols under Section 504.
  • Have experience working with data entry programs including SEAS, eSchool, and/or Triand.
  • Have strong ability to communicate with parents, administrators, and coordinators on a regular basis.
  • Trained in or be able to train in Crisis Prevention Institute training.
  • Function under policies established by the Board of Education.
  • Be directly responsible to the Director of Special Services and Supervisor of Special Services.
  • Work closely with the administrators and special education staff in managing students who transfer into the district in need of services or supports under IDEA and Section 504.
  • Confer with the special education teachers and school psychology specialists regarding students in need of evaluation and/or re-evaluation conferences.
  • Complete due process paperwork to compliantly meet the needs of students at their grade levels.
  • Confer with special education teachers and building administrators regarding students in process of referral for special education or Section 504.
  • Complete Section 504 documentation to compliantly meet the needs of students at their grade levels.
  • Confer with the Director of Special Services, Supervisor of Special Services regularly on matters relating to the appropriate services, placement and identification of students.
  • Support teachers with their appropriate documentation and data collection for students for which they serve.
  • Serve as the LEA representative, individual to interpret evaluation data, and/or special education teacher during IEP committee meetings.
  • Serve as the 504 representative during Section 504 committee meetings.
  • Confer with teachers individually upon request.
  • Confer with teachers in small groups regarding role functions, student needs, and other related matters.
  • Communicate with parents both at school and in the home in working through problems.
  • Complete home visits as needed for parent participation and input in matters involving services or supports for their child.
  • Complete file review for students who will complete transition to School Age Services.
  • Serve as the LEA representative, individual to interpret evaluation data, and/or special education teacher for the district during Preschool Transition meetings.
  • Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director of Special Services or Supervisor of Special Services including but not limited to maintenance of caseload for special education classroom, indirect teaching caseload, and/or homebound instruction.
