Job summary

Anova Education seeks a Special Education Coordinator to lead pupil personnel services within the district during a 200-day school year plus 17 additional days. Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with IDEA and related special education law for students ages 6-22.
  • Maintains electronic IEP database for assigned caseloads.
  • Chairs IEP Team meetings and acts as LEA representative.
  • Defines service proposals in case of team disagreement.
  • Oversees development of IEPs for students with disabilities; coordinates services.
  • Coordinates SPED services among teachers and providers; supports collaboration.
  • Delivers professional development to SPED staff as needed.
  • Supports admin in supervision/evaluation of SPED staff.
  • Identifies staffing needs through data review with building admins.
  • Reviews SPED data to drive improvements in student achievement.
  • Establishes relationships with families and coordinates scheduling/servicing of SPED students.

EXPERIENCE


  • Three years’ classroom teaching experience appropriate to supervisory grade levels of this position; sped or related student services field also appropriate

  • Prior administrative or team chair experience desired

  • Strong organizational, communication and management skills


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Supervises the special education process and procedures from initial referral to eligibility determination to implementation of Individualized Education (IEP) plans.

  • Assists the Pupil Personnel Director by assuming responsibility for administrative details related to effective and efficient operations of special education programs and services in the district.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Ensures all aspects of compliance and monitoring with IDEA and related special education law, regulation, and policy for students ages 6-22 years, as assigned

  • Maintains electronic IEP database of all students on assigned caseloads

  • Chairs IEP Team meetings and acts as the local educational agency (LEA) representative

  • Defines service/program proposal in the event of a Team disagreement

  • Oversees the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, as assigned

  • Coordinates special education services among teachers and service providers

  • Develops and delivers formal and informal professional development to special education classroom teachers and paraprofessionals as needed

  • Supports administrators in the supervision and evaluation of special education professional and/or support staff

  • Identifies special education staffing needs in conjunction with building administrators through careful assessment of data, programs and personnel

  • Consistently reviews special education data to make informed decisions to improve student achievement

  • Establishes effective relationships and communication with families of students with disabilities

  • Develops and maintains scheduling/servicing of special education students, in conjunction with service providers and special education teachers

  • Participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of specialized programs under the supervision of the Director

  • Coordinates DESE’s compliance review activities, when appropriate, for assigned caseloads, as part of a System Audit or School Instructional Review

  • Reports to building staff on DESE initiatives/indicators, audits, and inquiries, as assigned and appropriate to caseload

  • Assists the Special Education Department in the selection and administration of assessment tools to evaluate students’ functional abilities / present levels of performance

  • Provides actionable feedback to staff members on progress reports and evaluation assessments for accuracy and appropriateness

  • Fosters collaboration among teachers and paraprofessionals, through regular meetings

  • Organizes and coordinates MCAS administration relative to accommodations of students with IEPs, as well as those participating in an alternate assessment

  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior at all times and follow the policies and procedures as outlined by the school committee and district administration.

  • Formulates and provides guidance for ESY services with other members of the Special Education Department.

  • Performs other duties at the discretion of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services
