JP Schools is seeking a Special Education Coordinator to lead curriculum design, assessment development, and instructional services for grades 6-12 in Louisiana. The role emphasizes collaboration with administrators, staff development, and accountability reporting.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education from an accredited college or university.

  • Knowledge of Louisiana regulations and Bulletins relevant to school operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains connections with schools via administrative updates, website, email, and visits.
  • Prepares written reports and oral presentations on curriculum, instruction, and accountability.
  • Performs duties within the scope of employment and certifications as assigned.

Job description

Special Education Coordinator
  • Assists in designing, writing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating curriculum and instructional practices in schools.
  • Develops standards‑based assessments to assist teachers in ensuring students’ mastery of standards.
  • Provides and develops materials of instruction for grades 6‑12.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the evaluation and selection of textbooks and instructional materials.
  • Assures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations/policies.
  • Writes or revises grants and projects as assigned.
  • Provides instructional assistance to local schools.
  • Provides professional development to staff and informs school principals of scheduled professional development sessions offered by the state and other entities.
  • Collaborates with building and district administrators to assess program effectiveness and develop appropriate improvement objectives for the capacity building of instructional leaders.
  • Maintains connections with schools via the administrative update, website, email, and scheduled visits.
  • Prepares written reports and oral presentations relative to curriculum, instruction, and accountability matters.
  • Performs any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer or Executive Director of Special Education.
Skills and Qualifications:

  • An earned Master’s Degree in education from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years special education teaching experience at the middle or high school level.
  • Collaborative management style with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals to drive decision making and results.
  • High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
  • Ability to organize and motivate people.
  • Ability to conduct effective meetings and staff development activities.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Maintain knowledge of technological advances in the field.
  • Integrity, initiative, and good moral character.
  • Understanding of regulations regarding the operation of Louisiana schools including, but not limited to Bulletins 741, 1530, 1706, 130, and 1508.
  • Ability to relate to students, staff, administration, parents, and community.
  • Possess desirable attributes of personality, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Degree in subject area.
  • National Board certification.
  • Experience with curriculum, instruction and assessment development on the district, state or national level.
  • Active affiliations with professional organizations related to scope of job responsibilities.
Physical Involvement:

Sitting is required most of each work day. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations, and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations, including locations not on the ground floor.
