DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Coordinator of Special Education provides leadership and technical expertise in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of special education programs and services for students with disabilities ages 2�21, inclusive. The Coordinator facilitates division-wide functions and initiatives under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, with a focus on improving student achievement, performance, behavior, attendance, and access to educational opportunities. Responsibilities may include program coordination, professional learning, technical assistance, compliance monitoring, data analysis, and support for effective instructional and service delivery practices.
The Coordinator collaborates with school administrators, educators, related service providers, families, and departments to strengthen systems, build capacity, resolve barriers, and ensure effective implementation of special education and related services. Assigned programs and responsibilities may evolve based on the needs and priorities of Hampton City Schools. The Coordinator is expected to exercise sound professional judgment, independently manage assigned responsibilities, and develop effective systems and routines to support division goals and high-quality outcomes for students with disabilities.
