Job summary

Erie 1 BOCES seeks Classroom Teacher Aides for an 8th grade Regents-based program, working with 6:1:1 or 8:1:1 Exceptional Education Students. Aides assist with classroom activities, student care, and daily living tasks as directed by the teacher.

Responsibilities include arrival/departure support, material preparation, behavior management assistance, and supervision of indoor/outdoor activities. Lifting requirements apply to non-ambulatory students; confidentiality is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum Civil Service Qualifications: A) Graduation from high school or high school equivalency; or; B) Four (4) years of experience and knowledge in a field with specialized duties; C) An equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Additional Qualifications: Prior experience with Academic Exceptional Education High School Students preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with classroom activities as directed by the teacher.
• Work with individual children as directed by a teacher.
• Assist arrivals and departures (coats, boots, lunches).
• Keep supplies and materials in order and prepare materials for use.
• Help with feeding, toileting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Assist in implementing the classroom and student behavior management plans.
• Accompany a child when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the child must go to another part of the building.
• Assist in restraining students who may exhibit injurious behaviors.
• Supervise games and free play indoors and outdoors.
• Lift and move students as required for daily living activities; assist with lifting for non-ambulatory students.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Four years of experience in a specialized field

Equivalent combination of training and experience

Experience with Academic Exceptional Education High School Students preferred
