Job summary

Jefferson County School System seeks an Exceptional Education Bus Aide to assist the bus driver in providing safe, comfortable transport for students with special needs. You will help with boarding, seating, behavior support, and basic health checks as directed by a nurse.

The role requires patience, reliability, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and good communication with families, teachers, and administrators. This is a full-time position with set hours and a expectation of punctual attendance.

Qualifications

• Must meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Demonstrated success in relevant work experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist students with mobility.
• Ability to communicate clearly with students, parents and school staff.

Responsibilities

• Help students board and exit buses and assist the driver in maintaining order.
• Maintain routine records related to transportation as assigned.
• Transfer students on and off buses and assist with mobility.
• Provide basic health support and report concerns to the nurse.
• Attend IEP meetings if requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
