Job summary

Oak Hill School in Hartford is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support students with diverse learning and developmental needs within a structured, multidisciplinary setting. You will work alongside Special Education Teachers and a team to implement individualized plans and foster independence.

Daily responsibilities include assisting with academic, social, and behavioral goals, small-group instruction, and collaboration with families and educators to promote student success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license for at least two and a half to three years
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to follow instructional plans and directions.
• Compassion, patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to safely assist students with mobility and personal care needs.

Responsibilities

• Support students in achieving academic, social, and behavioral goals outlined in their IEPs.
• Work one-on-one and in small groups to reinforce classroom instruction.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
• Encourage student independence while implementing individualized behavior support plans.
• Assist with classroom observation and documentation of student progress.
• Provide personal care support, including toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, transferring, and other daily living activities as needed.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and other educational professionals to promote student success.
• Participate in ongoing training and maintain required certifications, including V-Endorsement.
• Apply ARC principles (Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency).
