Job summary

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is seeking a Special Education Assistant for the RISE program (Reaching Independence Through Structured Education). This nonexempt role supports students with significant developmental needs in a self-contained K-12 setting and assists with instruction, daily living, and behavior management under supervision.

The position reports to the Principal, requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and may require an Educational Aide Certification.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 48+ hours of study in higher education, Associates Degree or higher.
• Educational Aide Certification may be applied for once employed.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and assistance for students with significant social, communication, mobility, cognitive and/or behavioral challenges.
• Help students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
• Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
• Adapt classroom work/homework under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of supporting and/or reinforcing classroom curriculum and instruction.
• Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and/or developing students’ daily living, behavioral, and educational skills.
