Job summary

Mason Public Schools in Michigan is seeking a Special Education Assistant – Health Aide to support students in general or special education settings. The Health Aide assists with personal care, health plans, and one-on-one instruction, including toileting and diabetic needs, under the supervision of the principal and classroom teacher.

The role requires a high school diploma, experience with children, and the ability to work 32.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with reading and writing, acting as a reader/scribe when needed.
  • Support students in general or special education classrooms.
  • Assist with health care plans and personal care needs as identified in health plans.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction and supervise or redirect attention.
  • Help prepare and modify teaching materials and support mobility around the building.
  • Support peer activities and monitor student safety.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Assistant – Health Aide assists the classroom teacher in providing support to students in the general education or special education classrooms. The Health Aide works directly with students who have a variety of needs, including physical, emotional and learning, providing personalized assistance. Some of the responsibilities include helping with toileting, diabetic and other personal care needs when necessary, supporting students from special education classrooms,providing one-on-one instruction, and managing behaviors.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
  • The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day.
  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or field trip locations.
Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 3:30 pm, 6.5 hours per day, 32.5 hours weekly, school year schedule of August to June annually.

Wage:

$15.81 hourly. Annual raises for the first five years, then every 5 years per the bargaining agreement.
