Job summary

Mason Public Schools in Michigan seeks a Special Education Assistant - Health Aide to support students in general and special education settings. The Health Aide assists with personal care needs, diabetes-related tasks, and instructional support to promote student success.

Responsibilities include one-on-one instruction, health plan support, behavior management, reading/writing assistance, and classroom supervision. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, school year.

Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Special Education Assistant - Health Aide assists the classroom teacher in providing support to students in the general education or special education classrooms. The Health Aide works directly with students who have a variety of needs, including physical, emotional and learning, providing personalized assistance. Some of the responsibilities include helping with toileting, diabetic and other personal care needs when necessary, supporting students from special education classrooms,providing one-on-one instruction, and managing behaviors.

Qualifications Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Job Description:
  • Assisting students with reading and writing, acting as a reader/scribe to the student

  • Finding, modifying, preparing materials

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
  • The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day.
  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or field trip locations.
Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 3:30 pm, 6.5 hours per day, 32.5 hours weekly, school year schedule of August to June annually.

Benefits:

Life Insurance, Sick Time Off, Personal Time Off, 6 School Closure Days, Retirement, and Holidays per the bargaining unit agreement.

Wage:

$15.81 hourly. Annual raises for the first five years, then every 5 years per the bargaining agreement.
