Job summary

Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, IL seeks a Special Education Assistant to support classrooms and students under the supervision of the Assistant Principal for Operations. This 10-month position (181 days) with a 7-hour day provides the essential duties of assisting teachers, supervising students, and helping with instructional tasks.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma, paraprofessional approval, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Paraprofessional Approval (State and Federal) required for Special Education Assistant.
• Must be neat, thorough, industrious and have knowledge of school procedures.
• Requires good communication skills and the ability to work well with students and staff.
• Must be able to handle difficult situations with diplomacy and good judgment.
• Requires basic organizational, clerical and computer skills with the ability to operate commonly used office equipment.
• May require intermediate computer knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
• May require a valid driver's license.
• May require musical accompaniment skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with instructional and classroom management including attendance, inventory, lab scheduling and grading records.
• Responsible for student supervision
• May assist or coordinate mandate school testing.
• May assist students with hygiene needs (e.g. bathroom, changing clothes, changing diapers, feeding students, grooming, etc.)
• May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
