Job summary

Mesquite ISD is seeking a Special Education Assistant for ECSE/PPCD programs (Achziger). This full-time position supports a certified teacher in providing for students with disabilities, including self-help, behavioral, and instructional activities.

The role requires a high school diploma and strong collaboration with staff. The assistant helps prepare materials, records, and reports, and assists with daily care and supervision of students, including transfers and personal needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others and with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the teacher to prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with instructional programs under supervision, adapting to each student's needs.
• Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
• Help students with physical disabilities, including transfers to/from wheelchairs.
• Attend to students' physical needs and personal care, including feeding and hygiene.
• Assist with behavior management under the direction of a certified teacher.
• Support small group or individual instructional activities to develop motor skills.
• Report any special needs or problems to the teacher.
• Assist with assessments by administering tests as directed.
• Supervise students during meals, bus, and playground activities.
• Provide orientation and support to substitute teachers.
• Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development as needed.
