Job summary

St. Joseph County ISD seeks an Early Childhood Special Education Program Assistant Teacher to support instructional staff in ECSE classrooms.

The role involves implementing student IEP goals, assisting with cognitive and functional skills, and helping with self-care and community-based activities. Responsibilities include supervision of students, attendance/record-keeping, and collaboration with teachers and therapists.

Qualifications

  • Meets Michigan Department of Education requirements for instructional paraprofessionals.
  • Ability to pass LARA background checks and obtain training/certifications.
  • Regular and reliable attendance and physical ability to perform duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher with instructional and behavioral plans.
  • Support instruction in cognitive and functional skills.
  • Assist with self-help skills, community-based instruction, and group activities.
  • Supervise students during activities, lunch, and recess to maintain safety.
  • Assist with arrival/departure, and manage classroom reports and materials.
  • Lift up to 30 pounds and accompany students on bus/implementation activities.

Education

High school graduate with associate degree or 60 college credits
High school graduate that passes MDE-approved state/local assessment
High school graduate with portfolio assessment meeting MDE guidelines
