Job summary

The Hughes Educational Center in Christiansburg, VA seeks a full-time Teacher Assistant to support students with special needs in a low student-teacher ratio setting. You will implement individualized instruction and behavioral supports under supervision, helping students achieve social and academic goals.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's in Human Services preferred.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Experience with individuals with special needs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and care for students in a classroom setting.
• Provide daily living skills direction and demonstrations to students at different levels of ability.
• Provide positive intervention, limit-setting, and problem-solving guidance.
• Document accurately, legibly, and in a timely fashion.
• Demonstrate knowledge of student education plans and interventions.
• Respond with care and professional boundaries to residents and staff.
• Serve as a role model for students.
• Assist in management of aggressive behavior.
• Assist in implementation of alternative educational and behavioral programs.
• Identify social/behavioral issues.
