Job summary

Greenville Elementary School in Greenville, Indiana is seeking a Special Education Aide - Substitute to support students and classroom teachers under the building principal's guidance.

The position is part-time (28.5 hours/week) with a starting date of Immediate. Pay is $16.05 per hour (Pay Grade 7). Qualifications include an Associate’s degree or 2 years of college credit or ParaPro testing, plus basic computer skills and the ability to assist with varying student needs.

Responsibilities

• Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments.

• Keeps students focused on tasks and reports issues to the teacher.
• Works with assistants to meet individual student needs.
• Monitors students between activities and transitions.
• Assists with personal hygiene tasks as needed.
• Assists in collection and organization of instructional materials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee.

TITLE: Special Education Aide - Substitute

CLASSIFICATION: Instructional Support Staff

PAY GRADE 7: $16.05/hr.

LENGTH: 28.5 hours/week maximum

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Education and/or Experience:Associate’s degree or, two (2) years college credit or, completion of 1,000 hours in the past year as a paraprofessional or successful completion of ParaPro Assessment Test.
• Computer Skills:Ability to effectively utilize internet searches; use common internet systems; email.
• Other:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships with teachers, staff and students.
• Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Keeps students focused on tasks and reports any problems or concerns to the teacher of record.
• Works with assistant teachers in utilizing academic materials to meet individual student needs.
• Monitors students to/from non-academic activities or out-of classroom instruction (lunch, P.E. art).
• Assists students with and/or performs personal hygiene tasks (dressing, feeding, toilet, diapers).
• Assists in the collection and organization of instructional materials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by thePrincipal and/or other designee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
