Qualifications

• High school diploma and 60 credits from an accredited college or university; an associates degree is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of child growth and development and the needs of students with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher in developing classroom curriculum based on individual students' needs.
• Provide support in imparting specialized education based on lesson plans.
• Perform specialized tasks to achieve instructional and behavioral objectives.
• Assist special education teacher with behavior modification procedures.
• Help students with mobility and ensure a safe classroom environment.
• Provide instruction based on lesson plans and assist individual students in understanding concepts.
• Monitor students during activities and intervene when needed.
• Assist during lunchtime with opening lunch boxes and hydrating.
• Adapt activities to reinforce classroom objectives.
• Observe students for changes in behavior or health and report observations.
