Job summary

Utica Community School District Beck Centennial Elementary in Macomb, Michigan, is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant - Tier 3 to support students with autism and related needs in a resource room setting. The role runs 8:00am–3:30pm, with potential site changes based on program needs and student attendance.

Starting date is immediate; UPPA candidates have Oct 6, 2026 deadline, external candidates remain open until filled.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated understanding of student needs and ability to work with special needs students.
• Assist students with personal needs, including hygiene, diapering, toileting and clothing.
• Ability to assist students with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment.
• Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs.
• Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations.
• May need good physical flexibility such as running, walking, lifting and/or responding to student physical needs.
• Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health related awareness and intervention.
• Willingness to accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations depending on individual student needs as determined by the District.
• Ability to work with blood testing, insulin, ports, suctioning, diastat, medication dispensing, etc.
• Willingness to be assigned as general help during down-periods.
• Maintain various records and file, parent contact may be required.
• Characteristics sought include: Child-centered, adaptability, calm demeanor, respect for dignity, patience, confidentiality and ability to alertly focus during times of potential distraction.
• Wheelchair assistance may be required.
• Good attendance required.

Responsibilities

• 7 hrs a day; 8:00am - 3:30pm (30 minute lunch) - Special Education Teacher Assistant -Tier 3 (Resource Room Program - ASD/Behavior)
• Location may change and/or hours may increase or decrease due to student and/or program needs.
• Application deadline for UPPA Candidates: October 6, 2026 @ 4:00 pm. External Candidates: open until filled.
• Work year based on student attendance.
