Special Education Aide

Multiple Locations Available

Assist Special Education students and provide support to the Special Education teacher. Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to information concerning students, personnel, and other administrative matters affecting the district.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Southeast Delco School District will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations in assessing an employee's ability to carry out or otherwise meet the job requirements set forth herein in a satisfactory manner.

Duty & Responsibilities
  • Assist children with student line-up before classes begin each morning or at the end of the day.
  • Provide support and assistance to the classroom teacher including, but not limited to, creating bulletin boards and making copies.
  • Review student's homework and create homework folders for the students.
  • Provide assistance and support in the classroom to students as needed.
  • Provide assistance with academics in all academic areas including, but not limited to, providing small group instruction.
  • Accompany students to special events and to other classrooms, including music, art and gym.
  • Provide coverage at lunch periods to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Provide information as needed to Special Education department and regular education teacher (if applicable) regarding a student's behavior in special areas.
  • Diapering and toileting of students on an as-needed basis.
  • Have knowledge about the students and be prepared to provide assistance to special area teachers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Education & Experience
  • Must have Associate’s degree or higher or pass a local assessment test or hold at least forty-five (45) college credits or evidence of successful completion of required state test
  • In-person First Aid and CPR Training issued within 2 years.
  • Yearly paraprofessional training required – with a minimal of twenty (20) hours of training yearly
  • Must complete a PDE state approved crisis intervention restraint training shortly after being hiredPrevious experience as an Aide in a school setting desired.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to reach above and below the waist
  • Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
  • Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
  • Considerable bending and twisting of the body required
  • Some stooping and squatting required
  • Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time of the workday

Level of Compensation

This position's salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $19.88/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $20.40/hour.
